Default Weird freeze and following problems.

Twice (just now and a few years ago) I have experienced a weird freeze-up of IL-2 which I can only recover from by getting the desktop back and using Task Manager to stop the program. However, the result is that other programs are affected. The graphics of Firefox and Outlook become corrupted - there are lines and dots everywhere and some sites fail to load.

The only way out is to reset the PC with the button, as attempting to do so via windows does nothing.

Does anyone know what might be happening?

I don't think so. It wasn't hardware the first time it happened. It's probably software.

As far as I can remember, both occurences happened when I was playing an ntrk.

Default Hardware Monitor

Just to be sure that it is not a hardware problem, download a utility that looks at GPU temperatures, such as HWMonitor. If you're graphics card is from nVidia, nVidia Inspector has a good monitoring utility built in also. You'll also need to find out what the maximum safe temperature is for the GPU from the manufacturer's specifications. If the temperatures are in line, and you don't have the same problem with other 3D games, then, yes, it is a software issue. Good luck.

I do have a temperature monitor. I didn't use it in this case, but I'm pretty sure it's a software issue.
