Default Bug or intentional?

Every now and then I come up from below on an enemy fighters six (offline) unnoticed and light him up with a good 1 to 2 second burst in which it was obvious to me I scored hits(smoke trails from engine, etc.) but the enemy plane nor his wingmen react. Then if I move into a position where I know they should see me they suddenly start taking evasive maneuvers. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if it was a known bug or intentional(e.g. a rookie pilot freezing upon taking fire that he had no idea where it came from)?
On a side note, it really is a shame they stopped developing this. I got this game a few months back and am really starting to enjoy it. I've been using the Enlightened Florists campaigns, and have been able to set it to 100 minimum aircraft and 150 maximum with pretty good performance. Really interesting flying, swarms of blue coming across the channel. Very cool even if there is no point(no progression, ranks, awards, just fun) Anyways if anybody knows of better offline campaign stuff let me know I would appreciate it immensely. In the meantime I will be holding out hope for the modders.

Bug or feature is debatable
Basically it used to be far worse in previous patches, there could be no reaction to shooting down 1 of a formation at all.

This behaviour usually occurs when the formation concerned decides to return to base, it's 'awareness' seems to go to zero and they fly on their way as if on their way to an airshow.

This kind of behaviour was historically possible- eg 501 Sqn had 4 ac shot down in a couple of minutes by 1 member of JG26, but the 'RTB dummies' are a bit too dumb for my liking.

Other offline campaigns

or Desastersoft for paid addon campaigns

Official development may have ceased, that doesn't mean 'community based' development has

Thanks for the links. Just had another experience today that falls under the thread I started. I received a mission to escort a group of wellingtons into occupied France. After getting them all the way to target and back unscathed, I was just about to pat myself on the back and head home when one of the bofors at the bombers home airfield opened up on the group. Taking out an engine on one of the bombers while it was configured for landing, didn't end well for it. I watched helplessly as it rolled over into the ground and turned into a fireball. As an extra special kick in the teeth I get a "mission failed" message after the event. So my question again is this a known bug or intentional(e.g. trigger happy new guy on the cannon)?

Everything youve mentioned is bugs, no doubt.
Modelling things like retards on AA guns is not high on the priority of devs - or players.

My question is...

how the hell did you get the enlightened florist's dynamic campaign working?
Are you running the latest patch? Mine does not load, so I chalked it up to patch broken...

Cheers

I got it at airwarfare. I think it's called dynamic campaign 2.0. All I did was follow the install.txt file instructions and I have the latest patch from Steam. I did have to do the step in the install.txt at the bottom section where it says troubleshooting. It has you change the properties of a couple "dll." files then it worked fine. That could be your issue if you did not do that. The thing I like about it is if you have a capable pc, you can set the number of aircraft to a pretty high number. Also you can use the pilot tracker found on these forums and make yourself a cool little career with it even if the war does not progress, but you will see action every day. It's been fun for me anyway. As for the friendly fire incident, the game reported it as friendly fire in the statistics for the session. So if the game "knew" it was friendly fire after the incident, why didn't it "know" before. Well you probably are right, just a bug. I do know however in IL2 1946 if you use the 4.11.1 patch mistakes are modeled into the AI. I was hoping this game would make it that far with AI, but it is probably my imagination concluding these mistakes by the AI could be intentional.
