I think it was, without spoiling anything the best was left until last, James Cameron who made Aliens would have had less suspense and more action earlier, that's his style but not Ridleys Our Ridley is much more slow paced but equally as good as Camerons vision of the Xenomorph.

You are right though (and still without spoiling anything) the plot does leave an avenue open for yet another Alien prequel, and it might be a gauntlet thrown down to James Cameron by Ridley to do better in his action style? or Ridley to explore the plot in more depth in his own way.

But for sure I think the Alien franchise is now back on track after the silly AvP side excursions especially.
