Default steam and missing adsl connection...help

Hi all, I ask for your help:
until yesterday I did not find interest in discussions about 'steam' or not 'steam'. It never was an issue to be permanently logged to a net service cause I have (..had) a Adsl flat account.
I say until yesterday cause a major damage occurred to the telephone wiring system of the whole building where I live. So for the next 20 days I'll be off line from CloD servers. I thougt it wasn't no more than a boring situation until I realized that I can't even play Clod in single player mode cause 'steam' rejects my attempt to log in 'off line' mode.
How to solve this situation? How to play in single player mode bypassing steam?
Cheers

I don't think you can mate. Sorry. Someone on here though might be able to assist you further. I think this issue was one of the sore points for the community.

It does my head in. This is not much different to DRM where a connection is required to play.

That's somehow strange. I was offline too for the last 10 days because my adsl-modem died, but had no problems with steam's off-line mode. As there was no connection to the whole wide world, steam popped up a little window, asking me wether i want to go on- or offline. So I had no problems at all with CloD or Skyrim.
Lucky me, I guess. Good luck!

I recently experienced this frustration. As far as I could understand, you need to have the ability to log into steam and tell it to go into off line mode so you can play without the ability to log into Steam.

As you might predict, their support service was no assistance whatsoever with this.

Septic.

You need a online connection to steam to get in offline mode .
If you in offline mode there is no problem.

So only solution, go to a friend or use a free hotspot and make a connection to the internet, start steam go in offline mode return to home and play single player.

This is one of the weired things by steam

Not necessarily. If Steam realises there is no network connection then it asks if you want to use offline mode.

But it is very buggy- my desktop goes into offline mode if I disconnect from the internet without a trouble, same if I start up the pc when there is no internet- I go straight into offline mode.

My laptop simply wont go into offline mode, seems like a lucky dip if it will work or not. Strange.

What happens if you loose Steam connectivity is this:
  • If it happens while Steam is running it sows a "No Connection" text at the bottom of the Main Steam window.
At that point you can click "Steam" in the main menu and select "Go offline.."
You need to then confirm going offline and after that Steam will relaunch and go into the offline mode.
  • If you lose connectivity without Steam running you're not out of luck.
You may be able to go into offline mode but it might depend on if steam was once started in offline mode

Steam crashing doing this is sad but not common. Also there's no pop up message anymore - that was ages ago. I have validated this again just now.

That said it's not such a big deal anymore. But it might depend on if you had steam switched to offline mode already or not, I'm not sure on this.

But it's totally possible to start steam in offline mode these days (gladly). This was different a few months ago.
