There is a point when it's necessary to accept the problem, and swallow the bitter pill. Right now there is more whining than constructive criticism. Unsurprisingly, the whiners tend to see this differently.

The Silent Hunter series weren't exactly polished games when they came out, and the support was minimal, but the difference was that the community was more supportive. The members acknowledged and accepted the problems after an initial period of discontent, and they improved the games to the near masterpieces they are now.

I am not getting such an impression from this community for whatever reason. 1C and especially Luthier's development team are not Microsoft. They made mistakes, and they've acknowledged that. Things will take time to fix. The next step is to wait without getting too hot-headed.

You can't be talking about Silent Hunter 5 now? I agree on SH3 but SH5 was massacred by the community at the release... And rightfully so. There are unfortunately many similarities between SH3/IL2 vs SHV/CloD... SH3 had a rough start but the masterpiece was there to see for everyone and now all the mods made for it makes it live forever. SH5 at the other hand was an ambitious project that never met it's target and was released too early... Unfortunately a year or two if love by the devs may have saved it - but they where axed by the publisher.

So here we are with the "could be masterpiece" in our hands and the irritation over the bad management hurts, both from the publisher and the developer. Let's just hope they survive so we get to see the game at it's full potential!

Well, at least SH community has never had the level of elitism we are now enjoying among IL-2 players today. If someone says in Subsim (the main SH community's forum) that he prefers automatic torpedo firing to manual targeting, no one will say such things like "learn to shoot", "this game is supposed to be difficult, if you want it to be easier, go play some sucking arcades games" etc. Mods were supported right from the start, since nobody fears that the game might be "hacked","broken". Well, I guess the reason behind is SH is pretty much an offline game.
It's pretty funny that the most friendly IL-2 forum I can find is the SAS, a mod forum for offliners. Coincidence perhaps?

A moderated forum for IL-2 focused on offline play?
Cliffs of Dover included?

I would be interested if you do not mind, pointing me where that forum might be? I am not familiar with " SAS"...

Thanks,

Thanks,
Afraid it only covers old (classic?) il-2. A lot of interesting stuff on there though.

That's because they ban members and delete any posts they don't like the look or sound of.
