Default Gun trajectory question

Did WWII aircraft have their guns set with an upward angle to aid hitting targets while turning or set at a downward angle for ground attack?
I'm trying out DCS A-10 and there's a fire control option for doing that with the aiming computer. Somebody told me WWII planes did that but it seems odd. Most of these planes were FB and so could engage both air and ground targets. I'm sure there are some specialized examples of angled guns but not on the regular aircraft, is that correct?
