It think I wait until some DLC or addon comes out, if they start selling new planes it should (hopefully) be a sign that the worst bugs are fixed.
Last Thursday there were 3 servers with about 50 players each. Don't believe everything you read.

During US and UK prime times the numbers online get quite high indeed.

I've seen 50-70 ppl on ATAG during the weekend. And I'm starting to have some good fun therein.

The main issue online, apart from the wrong FMs and the remaining bugs, is that the Channel map is really huge, and the contacts are more difficult to spot than in Il2 Sturmovik. Online missions with the time will be more varied, as it wasp in Sturmovik, squads will start to join and eventually the online wars will start again. But already, for example, the AI bomber formations are nice to watch, and there are some good fighter engagements from time to time.

2012 will be CloD year

I hope. Rise of Flight is way better then Cliffs of Dover now, but it also took about one and a half years to get that far.

Numbers are growing. Even with the bugs in Clod, I find it hard to go back to 1946. For me, Clod is now top dog, I get smooth game play and few stutters.

The servers offer good variety with great people and good fighting.

Best thing anyone can tell you is to get online and try it out, its the only way.

Good Luck

I mostly play offline, creating historic scenarios and replaying them.

i find COD fairly stable now, especially in Windowed / pseudo modes.

AI needs alot help though

just bought it myself for reduced price... couldnt resist to see for myself....
took three days fiddling and forum searching to set it up at least somehow usable...

i think it depends much on the hardware you have whether you can already enjoy it..it is a performance hog extraordinaire..... if you have latest 1,5 or more gigabyte Nvidia Vram card, gtx 570 or 580 you might be not too disappointed about its performance.. good and fast CPU of course too... somewhere over 3,5 ghz it should be i guess to have the game run rather fluent with only the occasional hickup... or AMD 2 Gbyte of course... but as usual with Maddox games seems to run better on NV...

Dual gpu and SLI or Crossfire cards seem to still have their problems... it took me a special laucher program (Radeon Pro) with the CF profile of another game (Lost Plante DX10) to even make Clod start using CF (5970 dual gpu here)... with CF on and medium settings (landscape shading, buildings) mostly and without shadows (!!! looks bad) i get good framerates and fluent gameplay... but Multiplayer menues are distorted like that...
soo... no properly working Crossfire...SLI i dont know exactly but what i read here still a problem too...

Radeon card owners of 5xxx HD generation still need to delete ubilogo.wmf in order to have their card running on full speed... so even some basic bugs are not yet eliminated...

But whatever hardware you have,... you will encounter numerous other bugs.. the most annoying and immersion killer nr. 1 for me (apart of CTD) are UFO like rolling bogeys... AI is rolling without influence of gravity or so.. they wiggle from side to side in a second...looks ridiculous, absolutely no no...

But it seems there is some progress... i would wait for the next one or two patches until getting started with BOBII unless you have extremely potent hardware and are willing to invest a lot of time to get it going....
so i have shelved it and wait....

Zent, could you post your average fps.

I have a 5970 and an average fps of 40-50 online, I don't use radeon pro just ccc and have the game running in pseudo mode to remove the crossfire problem.

I was able to invest in a new rig before buying the game so I've never had performance issues that have bothered me - but I know others are not so happy and there has been disappointment when a patch or release has not addressed performance issues.

Personally I could never go back to IL2. Clod is so much more immersive - but the main reason is that the IL2 servers are filled with some highly skilled gamers. For me and my buddy it was getting tiresome always getting wasted. We flew together on one night of the week and our tactics just were not working. Now, on Clod we find that the playing field is wide open and we have more success - which I think is in part to the FM and DM.

No doubt things will change over time - but right now we find the experience is more aligned with the wartime stories you read, i.e. you can go on patrol and not see anything for ages but then suddenly find yourself in a tense combat with an enemy you just didn't see - and then it will abruptly end as quickly as it started and you're nursing your damaged kite back to base and wondering where everyone went.

The key bug for me that needs ironing out is AI. You can tell the AI planes because they're a bit jerky in their motion and sometimes fly sideways! (No kidding). Only the other day I had 3 109's chasing me all with exactly the same flight path and attitude.
