Assault Squad, add-on or stand alone?

Its still not clear to me.
AS would install over Men of War?
If I still had the first Men of War, will I be able to use the old units in the new editor?

Stand-alone.

I think so, there are even mods that import Red Tide units. But maybe somebody else could confirm if you can find stuff like Turtle in the AS editor.
