Seems like a wonder that BBD didnt lose the tail in that impact !

It is amazing that the wing structure of the skyraider gave way and not the fuselage of the P-51.

Small bird usually can still fly with one wing and a half, (check this is extreme footage, obviously the weight/engine power of this bird is pretty different from a p51 http://youtu.be/2lJy1idHwCc ) but, if elevator got damaged or broken, plane is useless... Maybe the impact under the p51 fusolage damaged badly the elevator/rudder controls and the pilot had no choice to bail. Maybe.

From the unofficial reports I've heard the 51 pilot had literally no control surfaces after the bang and did wonder if he'd lost the rear part of the fuselage.

I think the Wildman was last seen Sunday, grazing in a field just behind the flight line. ... Yikes !!! Anyone seen the big man since Sunday. Can someone please check under BBD.

Yes thats the same crosssection picture thats in the book I looked in. Its pretty clear huh?
