Some people have reported problems starting the game and some people have reported problems escaping. Personally I have never had such issues until, strangely enough, tonight. I run CloD using Game Booster and on clicking the icon in the booster window the 'Boosting Game' progress bar appeared, ran, and then nothing. I started the game using the actual Launcher Icon in Steam and it was fine. I restored the Game Booster shortcut to the desktop, clicked on that and again, nothing. So I deleted the shortcut and created a new shortcut which worked fine from the desktop so I dragged it back into Game Booster and that worked ok as well.
I did find, however, that on running the game a few things had unaccountably changed. Planes had aquired icons and some key assignments had changed or disappeared. It was as if a new (or old) controls section had loaded.
But I really do not think it is a game bug. I think it is a system or steam hiccup. And this is the problem, the game clearly dose suffer from bugs but how do you determine if something is really a game bug or if it is caused by other factors on your system or with steam.
Don't forget, this is a complicated bit of code that is trying to accomplish a very large number of tasks at one time so is bound to have problems to be sorted and may well be more sensitive to other software/hardware issues.
If you want a comprehensive WW2 combat simulation then stick with it. If you want a nice, stable, bug free game now then there are plenty of console offerings to choose from.
I just don't think it is helpful to assume you have a game bug and demand the developers get it fixed. As has been suggested, maybe you have something else in the game assigned to the esc key which is causing a conflict. Or it could be any number of other things.
