I know there has been cases in RL of aircraft with massive damage and still landing but not THAT much and the cases that have survived the aircraft have had to really on a great speed to keep aloft.

What I can agree to is that there's no way he could steer it like he does in the video. I think the amount of lift produced is a little too much compared to his airspeed. Last edited by Strike; 03-27-2011 at 03:02 AM. |

I remember a show from national geographic or discovery or history channel about a ww2 fighter pilot who did a dive, but couldnot pull out because he was moving so fast he got close to the sound barrier and the pressure on the control surfaces were so strong he couldnt move the stick and ended up leveling out just before hitting the ground. Bet he wished he had power stearing ![]() |

If they manage to make it playable with the filter on (ie, eliminate stutters and so on), it might actually be better to run a filtered game with all the effects instead of a non-filtered version with disabled effects. We'll see how it pans out, but these vids were definitely far from shabby even with the filter on and the effects were present as well. Sure, it's disappointing to have last minute surprise of a bad nature, but overall i think it will be playable just fine a couple of months down the road. Maybe because they actually bothered to turn down the settings, while people with high end PCs expect top performance with everything set to on. I don't know, just guessing to be honest ![]() If i were to make a balanced assessment, i'd say that it's a combination of all these: a) It certainly needs some patching to bring optimization where it should be, especially with the filter. b) People expect to be able to max everything out, which will probably not happen with current hardware of any kind. c) Possibility of conf.ini editing required, which as of yet is completely undocumented. For example, what if the game ships with the dynamic weather enabled and you need to disable it via the conf.ini? It's just a what if scenario and i'm not claiming it's fact, but just think about it...nobody knows how to do stuff like that yet. People with low-end or mid-range specs are more likely to start tinkering and find solutions to such issues than someone who just spent 2k on a brand new top of the line rig and expects perfection right out of the box, gets disappointed and stops bothering ![]() This could be a factor for other settings too, like process affinity and so on...if it needs conf.ini editing to work as it should, maybe a readme file in the next patch could provide some guidelines depending on specs to get the optimal results. Finally, not directed to the people i quoted above but a general observation. Let's try to take a middle ground approach and not contradict ourselves so much, at least while waiting for concrete evidence of: a) what's wrong and needs fixing with the game b) what's possible to do as an end-user to mitigate any possible problem while waiting for the fix and c) what the developers acknowledge as issues and what kind of steps they will take to fix it. Until then, we're all just guessing and while it's fine to guess in order to kill some time and vent some of our excitement and/or disappointment at various bits of information, it's one thing to guess and a completely different one to speak with absolute certainty. I see a lot of people going into panic mode at the first sign of something bad in a video captured on a high-end PC, then the exact same people saying their faith is reaffirmed once they see a smooth running video on a lower spec PC ![]() |

![]() I agree at sufficient speed he might be able to keep it aloft but, he would not be able to keep the speed up and you would not be able to pull up like that.... I stated in my first post an aircraft would need a lot more speed to be able to continue flying with that little surface area, maybe he should borrow an engine from a starfighter ![]()
