I am looking to replace a keyboard and wondering do the Logitech Gaming keyboards work with IL2. I.E. are the macro buttons able to be assigned in the IL2 controls page? Is anyone using a gaming keyboard and are they a good investment?

I've got a Logitech G-15, but I don't use it. Mainly because it's a USB keyboard and I can't use it in conjunction with a setting in my motherboard's bios to turn my computer on by pressing a key on the keyboard. (USB devices only become active after the computer's already on).

The Logitech keyboard also lost out to the old Microsoft keyboard I still use when it came to ergonomics and looks too.

In regards to the macro keys on the Logitech board, that was one of the main reasons why I tried the keyboard, but for some reason I never really bothered with them, can't remember why. Maybe I stopped using it for other reasons before I even got the chance to set up the macro keys.

By the way, as I understand it, the macro keys are set up within the keyboards software, not in any game you're using, so it should be compatible with IL-2. You press the macro key on your keyboard and the keyboard then effectively splits that keypress up into the combined keypresses you assigned to that macro, and sends those separate keypresses to the game. The only reason I can imagine why it might not work is if the action triggered in game by the first keypress in the macro group requires some time to pass before the game will recognize the second keypress in the macro group. You might even be able to set up such time delays in the macro software anyway though, but I can't be sure.

At the end of the day, IMO, gaming keyboards in general are a bit of a gimmick, just like 'gamer' versions of any standard product. Just like all such products though, there are people who swear by them and who wouldn't use anything else.

I'd rather just use a keyboard I find more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, press button combo's the old-school way if I have to, and do without all those little extra features that I don't really need (the little screen and backlit keys on the Logi boards for example). Remembering too that those gaming keyboards sometimes lack some features you might be used to using too (in my case the Media type button arrangement on my old board, and its ability to switch on my computer).

There are some better than basic keyboards around that aren't gaming keyboards, too. Might be worth considering those as well.

I've had the G15 for a few years and I love it. The macro buttons are programmed within its own software.

I love my G15 that I've had for 4 years or so... The color is wearing off but the LCD is a nice gadget. How can one not love a keyboard that comes with an SDK?

I wrote a small program myself back when I bought it that I use every time I fly that parses the log and collects statistics "live" from the current session. Screenshot below:

I can highly recommend the logitech g15 or g19. I have both including a G13 gaming pad and have used 3 different plugins for years which are useful to display trim settings, kill information among other useful bits of information on the screens. (including mazex app thanks mate great app) I have an x52pro with quite a few macros programmed and also use a couple macros on the logitech which works really well. Especially the live macro recording. Backlit keys are fanastic in a dark or dim lit room too!

Lol, there you go. Maybe you should give one a try tamman, just to find out for yourself.

The fact is, the Logitech gaming keyboards do as they claim, so they're not a rip-off in that sense. It's just up to you to decide though what their feature-sets are worth to you.
