Pets Treasure ability?

I do not seem to get this one. Is it used during a battle only? How do you know if/when/where to use it?

At the beginning of the fight, the possible locations to find things are chosen by the computer. When you activate the ability, they will be highlighted, and you can click on the one you want.

If a unit is standing on one of these spots, you will not be able to see that it is there, so if you can't find anything, a unit might be covering it up.
