Realplayer... that used to happen to me too... it's because the GAME being a third party entity, doesn't have permissions to modify the files inside the folder, it's a weird thing I solved by just moving a few files, however, if I'm honest, I don't remember which ones... keep trying and let us know your progress, but believe me is not a difficult thing to solve, it's just a bit tricky

No, it's not installed in Program Files. I installed it in "E:\Spiele\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" (I am Austrian).
Moving the whole game folder to another place doesnt change anything ... I've tried to write-protect the conf.ini. The result was that i still could not enable perfect mode, but the conf.ini remained unchanged ...  Big mystery

I had this problem when installing IL-2 on my new computer that I built which runs Windows 7 64 bit. I tried everything, then eventually discovered my desktop display was set to 16 bit color mode (how it got that way I have no idea). Setting it to 32 bit solved it. I hope this helps, Good Luck, S!

I have Windows 7 64 Bit too.
My desktop runs already in 32 Bit color mode.  I don't understand this ...

Do you have an nvidia card? if you do make sure extension limit is set to OFF in the nvidia control panel.
