Default which ammo to saw off wings and blow up fighters

hey guys.i wonder which ammo i should use in my bf, to saw off wings and get spits and hurries to explode.with my current bullets, i only make a lot of wholes into them.sometimes they begin to smoke.most of the times i think i kill the pilots.when i shoot at beaufighters, they mostly catch up fire near the engines.but spits and hurries just look like swiss cheese after i shot all my ammo at them.i played now 60hours this game but only managed once to detach a wing from a hurrie and i think twice to explode a beaufighter.what are your experiences?

Blew one wing off as well in my time playing so far. I'm finding it very hard to shoot planes down. Especially the German planes, the RAF seem to be really weak the Luft super tough.

There are only one or two Brandsprenggranate in the current ammo setup for the Mgff i think. I tried to change it but no luck so far.

20 mm in this game seem to have almost noone explosive power. .303 work better both in the 109 and in british planes. a well placed round in the engine and its over.

Im no expert but i would think the MGff/m would be better suited to blow off wings. The MGff in game has only incendiary ammo, sure one is explosive too but still its called Brandmunition (Brand= Burn). The Minengeschoss of MGff/m had much more explosive power. I dont have problems in game to set em on fire. But still im looking forward to seeing the effects of MGFF/m once we get a 109e4
check here too: M Geschoss has a lot more explosive power.

yeah shooting seems to be much harder than in il2 1946.the 20mm cannons seem to have not the power i expected.now i use brandsprengranate as ammo for it.but its not really exploding when i hit my target.although you can see nice small blow ups in the sky when i miss.

Weird, I see that all the time. Plus the fires that spread all over the planes. I actually seem to be able to shoot down more planes with E3 when using MG:s as I can not seem to hit with cannons that much.

In the spit I use a 50-50 mix of Dewilde and AP (4guns one, 4guns the other) and I find it very effective when my shooting is good. One problem I'm having is keeping the plane steady in the vertical plane on the gun run, that makes it real hard to get enough ammo on target.

Simple fact of the matter is that no matter what ammo you use 303's are just not very good at tearing up airplanes. The German 8mm on the other hand while still a rifle caliber gun has a substantially heavier bullet (not to mention a very nice selection of ammo) so is capable of doing much (or at least some) more damage if you can get enough bullets on target with just 2 guns. As for the 20's the Germans agreed with us that they weren't very effective, that's why they were so quick to convert the E3's to E4's the minute the Mine Shell guns were available.

I think we're just going to have to get used to not so spectacular action at the other end of our guns until we get better ones. (that won't be so long for the Lufties)
