Tbh , hyperlobby is a mess for the untrained eye, its a great 3rd party platform but lets face it , its dated, its old, its ugly , it sounds terrible and you can probably mod all that away in a heartbeat, still Steam would be way easier, more clean and fluid.

Because a product uses steam does not mean that the game will/won't have certain features.

You guys high-jacked the thread... I'm not sure I got an answer to the original question, so I'll ask again. Does anyone know if COD be a "no cd" start up?

To Skoshi Tiger - (From first page)... Skoshi, I have 1946 too and have never needed the DVD to start up... Just installed it, put the DVD in the box threw it on the shelf and played away... Strange.

If it uses Steam (as seems to be the case) yes.

HL has a sound folder, just delete the sounds you don't like(i did).
HL also has several skins, maybe you find one you like.

But actually I don't give a flying F*** what it looks like, it's a progi I barely use 30seconds before I start the game. It could be a b/w dos window for all I care.

If someone tells me the big advantages of steam is I can play the game from wherever I want, he's an moron.
While I could play from a laptop, which indeed makes it highly mobile - the rest of the necessary equipment is not - all this heavy bulky stuff.

Weird, maybe something to do with the region, mines a securecom message. (i'm patched to 4.10)

Cheers!

Would be interesting to know how many times you have donated to HL over the last 10 years of its free non committal existence.

Its the way of the world these days so many ungrateful people clicking the "want want want" button ignoring the "give" sign.

Perhaps that's true, but really the only reason to use HL is that the majority of the online community uses it. Xfire is just as good, just as free and isn't a chore to use. Same goes for Steam. In fact, most of my favourite Il-2:1946 servers are advertised on Xfire as well.

Start HL,see my squaddies online, choose which online war I want to fly,as they all have their own 'rooms' in HL,such as AFW,IL2 war etc, click on an empty space and wait for the host to start the game.Chat to people and give help to newbies while I wait.
Works for me.
And if anyone is still using securom and the dvd in the drive they have my sympathies!
