Normally I am not too picky when it comes to sounds, but when I heard how the FW 200 sounded like, I thought that was a bad joke.....a moped sounds more powerful than that. Then when I think of those up date threads where there was one where there was a lot of talk about the sounds, and lots of videos presented with the various engine sounds and this is what comes around.....looks like people where more busy with the decoration than the main game.

I don't mean to bash down on tigers sound mod. But to me, the flyby's are the feature that ruin the soundmod. It's a flyby sound from an airshow that just loops each time you press F3. Doesn't feel like the plane in game is producing the sound, it feels like it's just being there as a placeholder. Personally I'd like to have sounds that are created by the game. Much like FSX, depending on angle you're viewing the aircraft, speed, rpm, supercharger etc.
Not saying this sound is superb, it's quite old but it is showing what I mean about the sound generation method. That it's the angle of the camera viewing the plane that determines what sound is dominant. This video demonstrates the spitfire coming in with a generic sound, then switching over to more of a defined exhauststack "putter" sound as it goes by. ARMA II is a game that does pretty good at simulating aircraft noise: Typically you'll hear the more defined jet sound in front of the plane, but in the back you'll hear more of a "windburst" tearing up the air. I know this from working with F-16's too. It's unbearable to stand infront of the F-16 without hearing protection, but behind the nozzle you're fine. I can only imagine the props of wwII had more defined exhaust sounds behind the plane than infront, especially at high RPM's since sound travels through air and have to work their way through the propwash first. |

"Par" isn't just a golfing term. "Par" means equal or the average or usual amount. Whilst in golf being below the par number of strokes is good, in general something that is below par is below the average or usual standard. This is not so good. If you want to annoy everyone by being a smart arsed pedant, at least get it right. |

"It looks like Letum is having some diffuculty on this Par 4, he's sliced and put the ball into the rough. Let's see if he manages to catch up to the pack on the next hole."

Sound is sooooo important with this sim. If this was about Ferraris and they used lawnmowers instead of a V-12, it would not work. It' does not work with Spits and 109s either. Almost everyone hears the problem, I just hope someone comes up with a good solution.

Sounds got a lot better since the official patch release but still there's a hell of a lot of work to do- the first thing that comes to mind is the RAF 8x .303; do you know what a hell of a sound that would be? That would almost drown out the 24 liter V12 engine at full song... What we have at the moment is a piss take.
