Default AV8r-02 XBOX- the THREAD

I know there have been about a bigillion joystick threads, so I'm hoping to consolidate discussion about this specific stick. I chose to limit it to AV8r for the xbox only, because of the unique functioning of the analog rudder as compared to the PS3 version.

To kick-start the thread, here is a brief synopsis of what I have read thus far:

+analog hat allowing smooth situational awareness
+analog rudder
+sturdy construction
+comfortable after the tennis grip mod
+cheap compared to the Ace-edge

-deadzone as programmed into BOP
-throttle placement in front is awkward & no HOTAS
-light construction, which may turn some people off

Where to buy: Amazon, Gamestop (in store) both sell it

REMAINING QUESTIONS FOR AV8R OWNERS

1. How significant is the deadzone in terms of it's affect during BOP gameplay? Is it significantly reduced by the ziptie mod?

2. How does the button layout conform to BOP? (are there any controls notably absent; ie can't use stick to adjust trim)

3. What kind of improvement in control (not just coolness of having a flight stick) does it offer over the gamepad? If you had it to do over again, would you pay the extra cash for the Ace-edge

OR

in other words, is it worth the purchase?

1. The deadzone has been said to be intentional. I can't confirm or deny if there was a deadzone on the stick in the real Spitfire, but it's not unlikely. The ziptie mod cannot change the deadzone, it will just reduce the amount of force required to push the stick.

2. The only thing that is absent are wheelbrakes. On the pad you hold the right stick down to activate them, pulling the throttle to zero does not have the same effect.

3. Controls are more precise than on the 1cm thumbstick on the joypad. Looking around is much less troublesome.

In other words it IS worth the purchase.
