As said, the fact you are unable to write to the folder creating a screenshot seems like a permissions thing, are you able to make changes to the "conf" file and they stay changed after launching the IL2 .exe flying closing the IL2 .exe and returning to desktop.

I had this on another 8.1 system where no changes could be made even on a separate hard drive until the permissions were set to allow for administrator.

i should be using administrator? or user? and all boxes are ticked except the bottom one special. i can change and it keeps changes in conf ini, still no luck.

Should be set under Administrators

yes as i thought the box in your picture was greyed out as admin, thats what i used and all boxes except the special are ticked, my special is staying greyed out and unable to check it.

It would affect the conf file settings as well, as you are able to write to the conf file the permission settings are ok.
