There is an AppData directory, it's just hidden.

Follow this tutorial to show hidden files.

The fact you have no screenshots folder could be the problem as when you hit "print screen" key the folder is created and the image stored inside.

Your file path for the game installation is correct as its outside of the program folders so isn't affected by windows file structure security or UAC.

You may have to set permissions on the containing folder, see image below.

still no joy tried both ideas, do i need a aftermarket photo program just to see the files, i can see other downloaded jpeg etc in my pictures. it also insnt generating a screenshots folder, i tested the printscreen key by openiong a picture in my pictures and pressing the key and pasted the image onto a word pad so that tells me the printscreen key is working. conf ini has printscreen=screenshot so im stumped..

As said, the fact you are unable to write to the folder creating a screenshot seems like a permissions thing, are you able to make changes to the "conf" file and they stay changed after launching the IL2 .exe flying closing the IL2 .exe and returning to desktop.

I had this on another 8.1 system where no changes could be made even on a separate hard drive until the permissions were set to allow for administrator.

i should be using administrator? or user? and all boxes are ticked except the bottom one special. i can change and it keeps changes in conf ini, still no luck.
