Hey EZ, thats 5 Staffel JG27 in the first image. Often in books its shown with the red bar, however every other squadron has the same bar colour as the number! So is this an error somewhere that everyone has copied or did they use a red bar and black letters? Other times you see this Staffel with Black number and black bar?! Which is correct and do you have any info? Was there a date and time this changed over or is it simply an error?
Thanks. |

damn.. Now that you ask, I can't find the photo that I was looking at..
I was using the profile picture, but I had a photo that clearly showed that the colour of the bar was different than the number.. it was in black and white but you could still see the differance. I'll have to do some more digging before releasing this one it seems ![]()

I dont understand why they'd be the only squadron in the Luftwaffe to break the rule?! - But I would not doubt it was not so either because the Luftwaffe is full of contradictions and for every rule theres a counter rule.
Any info you can find would be great! - Ive exhausted my search. |

Farber... Take a look at this pic and tell me that they are the same "colour".
Maybe this is the proof we need? ![]() Not the same plane, I know.. but, they don't look the same, and the plane is from the same squadron. I took the photo and took a colour sample of both the number, and the dash. This is what "colour" each one came out as.. ![]() Your thoughts.. ? Last edited by JG26_EZ; 10-22-2012 at 09:07 PM. |

Maybe the aircraft recieved a new number and the number paint is fresher?
Maybe they got aircraft from a red numbered squadron - who knows? We really just need colour photo's I think, but I have never found any. |

I think it's the sun making them appear different. The Germans were a bit more particular about markings than the RAF.

My opinion...
I don't think it's a new number (absolutely no evidence of the last number is present). I think if they were going to refresh the codes' paint, they'd refresh it all at the same time they had the paint out. I don't think it's the sun (the right side of the bar that is in the shade, still isn't as dark as the number). But... If it can't be proven either way, I guess it all boils down to what you and the rest of the 5./JG27 boys think/want, as really, you guys are now the "new 5./JG27" members (and keeping in mind that your group will probably spend more flight hours than the old 5./JG27 members put in) ![]() |
