I think too, that any sufficiently advanced civilisation would send to Earth many different crafts of all shapes and forms, after all, we can send up everything from Spitfires to F35's, why do we pick at an Alien movie that shows something different from the original concept?

The spacecraft ok but, what was the reason he drank that thing? Self sacrifice, mistake, part of a plan?

And since we know much latter that they had masses of that thing and what they intended to use it for...
