I find single-engine aircraft to be more durable (a little bit) but haven't found them to be overly difficult to down.
Last night, flying escort for a big bomber formation of 88's and 111's I got two spitfires - bounced one and got another one after a lengthy fight. Sounds like it might be just a bad run? I did notice that my tracers aren't working any more, on my nose guns. Are you sure you're hitting?
