Thanks for the clarification Jimmy. I 'thought' that's how it worked, but wanted to be sure. DX 11 is backwards compatable. I was hoping to find a common error for those (as well as myself) still having stutters. C'est la vie.

Because there are no specific DX9/10/11 drivers. What API you have is mainly defined by the highest(!) DX-Version installed onto your PC (in your case DX11, as it´s shipped with W7). But, every DX Version is somewhat downwards compatible, if you have dx11 installed, you automatically have dx10.x installed, if you have dx9 installed, you have also dx6 installed (that one i´m sure of, as i didn´t have to install it, once i played a dx6 game).
But dx10 is not downwards compatible to dx9, that´s why you have to install it separately. The drivers only function is to act as an interface between the hardware and the software, itself has absolutely no control of the api used, because that´s the programmers job.
