I've read about P-38 crews in New Guinea that would pack the gun bay with bottles of beer and then have the pilot climb to 20,000+ feet and make a rapid decent back to the field as it was the only way to get a cold beer in that hell hole.

Absolutely, and trust me you don't want to experience the hangover after a night on the 100 octane....
