Default Landscape Detail

Does anyone know how to configure the sim. so that you can set the landscape detail to perfect? I have it on maximum settings, but the perfect option is subdued. I've been able to set it to perfect in the past, but I can't remember what I did.

Need to use OpenGL to enable the selection of Perfect Mode. DirectX mode doesn't support it.

If you don't care about using "perfect" setting, is it better to be using DirectX mode or OpenGL mode at this point (with 4.11)? IIRC, back when I last flew IL-2 (somewhere around 4.04/4.07, I believe), the general consensus advice was always to use OpenGL and not DirectX, but I was wondering if maybe that had changed somewhere along the way?

Its OpenGL that is primarly supported.
