One plane? It depends what you want it for, and how much effort you're prepared to put into learning how to tame the beast. I'm beginning to get to grips with the Dr.1, but I wouldn't recommend it as a first turn and burn rotary - it has a mind of its own, and getting it to turn left involves the most ridiculous battle between man and machine. The Camel is better, but has similar tendencies - though the biggest problem is a tendency for the engine to overrev, and squirt oil all over your goggles...

I suppose that for an online noob plane, the Foxxer D.VIIF is a good choice, as long asyou avoid turn-fighting Camels. For single-player campaigns, the choice is wider - there is something almost magical about pootling around in a Fokker Eindekker, knowing that this was the machine that (more or less) started it all - and it beats any later plane for all-round view, at least until the F-16 appeared.
