No, you should be good to go now! Make sure you have the latest patch to v1.05.15950

The game keeps freezing up after around 2 mins of play - mainly been testing on quick missions british attack column. I have set everthing to low except for visuals and model detail to medium - during game play i have an average fps of 96. All other options are off and the resolution is as low as possible. even the mirror has gone as it gets me another 30-40 fps

Any one got any ideas?

The good news is: with your setup, you should have no problems running the sim great with everything close to high. It sounds like you just need some basic tweaking. I have a very similar setup and the sim is running great. It could just be one thing here or there you need to tweak.

Here is my setting screen if you want to follow it. you should be able to run very close to these settings

Start with the basics. Shut off all background programs, antivirus, etc. Rename the ubisoft intro video so it doesn't load. Make sure Epilepsy Filter is off. Your issue could be anything....just keep tweaking. It will work great with your setup. Always shut your mirror off, look into fxaa in these forums. I use that as well.

Also, your issue could even be heat. That is one of the most common culprits with "freezing". Check to see the dust status of your rig/box. Be sure and monitor your temps as well using a program like GPU-z for graphics or RealTemp 360 for processors.
