I don't think you'd see much of a increase in performance but you would have DX10 and DX11 with a GPU upgrade plus a clean install always speeds things up a bit. Mainly you'd have a better OS, I love Windows 7.
I think 4GB is the sweet spot for LGA775, never seen much if any benefit to 8GB and I've tried alot of different memory/motherboard configurations. |

I would get the Windows 7 One less thing you have to buy when you do buy your new computer Xp is outdated for new apps and games and you can't even buy it anymore However with windows 7 you can run programs under xp settings and i heard it is less on your HD plus you get DX10 / 11 and better updates to run your computer faster Its money well spent

my second machine is a core2 E6550 socket 775, has 4GB ram, and an HD5850, without windows 7 i couldn't use directx10/11, and games are totally playable with dx11 enabled... i got a noctua cooler for it and overclocked the cpu to 3GHz and its a perfect 2nd computer for friends coming over, since it can play all the games my main one can too.
