The all grew up during your 7 months? Oh isn’t that a miracle!

You wait another six years and I will ask you again, but honestly this is, in my opinion, not the place to debate other forums. You open a thread about this over there and I will keenly participate.

Ready for this Targ?

Thank you Scwarz.. I agree with you for the most part. There will always be folks who just carry their negativity with them wherever they go.. but I agree with you... with a few exceptions UBI is on of the most helpful places I have ever seen.

Schwarz.13,
Several months ago there was a fall out/differance of opinion/ clash of ego's, whatever you wish to call it between some contributors and some mods, resulting in (in my opinion) some very heavy handed actions by some of the mods.
After this a large group of people, (mainly skinners) left, there was a lot of bad feeling and animosity that is only just 'thinning' out.

But, as already said, the majority of 'Zoo' users are helpful and polite (there will always be those who think they are above or better) and it appears to be going through a resurgance of late (just wish there were some 4.09 updates)

That would be '07, and not much of a massacre. There were very few bans. Mostly short vacations, but the implementation was very...er...marshal and didn't accomplish what it was hoped to accomplish.

Many people (and organizations) continue to forget that it was the community-at-large that really made IL2 and FB what they bacame.

Server hosts (of which should probably get the biggest nod), third party code writers (FBDaemon anybody?), movie-makers and, of course, skinners. These are the people that did the most for bringing along this wonderful sim.

Oleg and 1:C authored the code and spent literally thousands of hours putting it together, but do we remember how frequently Oleg used to come to the community in the early days and exchange dialogue? I do... and really, only good things came of it up to a point.

As a long-time lurker, reader and contributor to this community, I find it somewhat sad to have witnessed some of the depths many felt it necessary to descend to over the last few months. I think that, more than anything else, has done more to bring the end of the IL2 saga closer to an end.

well - I think anytime you get a large number of people together, for any reason, you see wide differences of oppinion.

for my part - I don't see why it is necessary to put down the UBI forum or its moderators to the degree I see here...

the ability to discuss some of these differences vs. the carefull avoidance of certain topics that simply do no one any good to discuss is the tightrope that every moderator must walk - and those guys to their credit tried to let some conversations play out a bit.

thats what made the place both especially interesting and at times somewhat 'confrontational' maybe?... but the people who took unfair advantage of the general discussion theme were always redressed at some point.

that being said - I am pleased that this board appears to be slightly more tightly monitored - but I hope the core community will always be able to recognise one another and continue to discuss general topics in one forum or another...

I think Evgeny is a breath of fresh air: imperturbable, impartial, rational, good-natured, and ruthless. The perfect moderator. I am amused to see the worst moderator on the Ubi IL-2 forum complaining about "negativity" on the Ubi forum when his witlessness constantly causes umbrage and consternation, and is instrumental in creating the chaotic atmosphere on that benighted forum. Well done, Evgeny, keep up the splendid work. May this excellent forum flourish.

With respect, kristorf, I would say it's a minority of friendly and helpful posters at the 'zoo.' But they are a powerful minority and I hope they continue to endure the egomaniacs who really run the place.

The [free] patch is out and the ungrateful whining has already begun.

Some of the posts in this thread are exactly the kind of posts that earned the zoo its name.
