I put my present gaming computer together in early Spring 2006, when it became apparent that my 4 y/o P4 2.4Ghz that had soldiered on with IL2FB was now straining under the new release IL2-1946.
The new rig was still a budget rig, with no intentions of requiring it to meet the needs of the SOW series. I expect that i'll need to replace my rig entirely a year or so after SOW:BoB is released - until then, i'll continue playing the IL2-1946 sim. I simply can't afford to, nor justify replacing my primary gaming computer until 3-4 years has passed, so i'll have to sit SOW out until then. The present gaming rig (only used for 1946, really). Pentium 4 - C2D E6300 - Intel 965 mobo 2 GB DC Ram NVidia PNY 7600GS 512mb PCI-E video Dual 19" BenQ LCD panels X52 Hotas and pedals Nostromo N52 gamepad TrackIR3 Full simpit .. and not a lick of personal flight talent to hit the broad-side of a barn with bullets or airplane after 4+ years. Go figure. Last edited by Bandit Bill; 12-22-2007 at 03:22 PM. |

Great idea, here’s my homegrown specs:
Windoze xp sp2 home Viewsonic vx922 2.04m IL-2 OPEN GL 1280X960X32 ATTEMPT STENCIL BUFER VIS DISTANCE – HI OBJECT LIGHTING – MED OBJECT DETAIL – EXCELLENT LANDSCAPE LIGHTING – HI LANDSCAPE DETAIL – EXCELLENT CLOUDS DETAIL – MED CONFIG.INI LOCKED WITH WATER =0 NVIDIA NFORCEWARE DRIVERS VER 6.14.11.6921 12-5-07 THE BLACK DEATH 10 SEC 40 FPS 20 SEC 55 FPS 1.07 SEC 15 FPS (*) (*) This is the lowest point, at the time of explosion you can see the fps really drop to a crawl approx 1 min 7 seconds. Vid Card settings are application controlled with VSYNC forced OFF. Things look pretty good all around. At perfect settings the visual quality is not noticeably better but FPS definitely drop. So this is how I run, I don’t seem to lose visuals but the FPS are more playable – smoother. Prior drivers were 6.6.9.3 and 7.1.77, I think my FPS @ 1.07 might have been 17-18 with the 6.6.9.3 drivers. I may revert. |

So what will the optimal system be in a year when BoB is released only taking in to account what we know today?
Opsys = 64 bit CPU = 3 or 4 core 64 bit GPU = eg G92 ,1G DDR, OGL 3, displayport RAM = 4G ddr3 MB = PCIe 3.0, DX 10.1 sound, legacy free HD = SSD, SATA 3 Screen = displayport, 1080p Just rambling what I can recall reading on the net. Anything else or any corrections. BTW if I will be able to run SoW BoB on my present computer I doubt that I will by it. |

Intel 6850 @3 gigs
Corsair DDR2-1066 4 gigs Nvidia 7900GTX waiting for BOB to upgrade to a next generation video card I've overclocked the cpu from @ 3.2 , 3.6, 3.8, and 4 gigs. I was getting huge frame rates in the black death track. At one point during a 4 gig test my system crashed and I restored the BIO defaults. Since then when I overclock the cpu and test with the Black Death track my frame rates actually fall. Cpu Z shows the proper overclock, and all the cpu heat tests I run show that the cpu isn't over heating. The only thing that I found different is the Windows task manager shows IL-2 using only 50% of the cpu and I thought IL-2 used almost 100%. I have the Speedstep disabled in the BIO's and the cpu doesn't seem to be downclocking when running a intensive app. I'm at a loss. It don't need the speed now but would like to overclock again when BOB comes out. ~Salute~ Chivas |

Our systems are very similiar. If you run it with only one stick (1g) ram, how does it compare to two G?
I know the DDR throughput will be slightly diminished but I was curious the diff between a pair of .5G sticks totalling 1G versus a pair of 1.0G sticks with total of 2G ram. Loading diff? Rejoin lag pause? |

Spudley:
It's been a while since I added the second stick - probably two years - but as best I can recall the most obvious improvement versus 1G was game load time. Come to think of it, the RAM doubling was part of a major new MoBo upgrade so I can't actually isolate the impact. I know that's not much help, but it's the best I can do. |
