I haven't tried night flying yet so i can't comment on the bugs, but from my recollection most of the real aircraft of the time didn't have individually lit instruments.

Usually it was just a combination of floodlights and fluorescent paint on the dials. You can clearly see the floodlights in the cockpits, not only in CoD but in IL2:1946 too.
