I use this computer in my music studio and I run these programs that require a lot of RAM. That's why 12GB.

What music program is that? I run a lot of music programs myself. Reaper is one of them and with lot of plugins such as Superior drummer and a bunch of vst plugins it can suck up to 2 gb, but still I have enough free ram. I allso use Sony vegas for video editing and i use windows server sometimes. I never need more than 4 gb of ram.

I don't necessary use all of the 12gb RAM, but once you start to use large sample libraries stacked next to each other and add up tracks, you will need lots of RAM. I want to be able handle a project with 128 tracks if I need to (I have never used so many), but I like the idea that I can do it if I want, so better to load up your system with memory. And RAM is so cheap these days..

I'm tweaking my New Rig plan/design. I've penciled in a Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost), and a GTX 580 or the newest GTX590 (Dual) card.
Any thoughts/advice? ------ It was mentioned in an earlier post that Windows 7/32bit will only access 3.6GB of RAM. Is that correct? I have been thinking of going with Windows 7/64bit, with CORSAIR DOMINATOR 8GB (2 x 4GB) or G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB). [All I've read agrees that more than 8GB is a total waste] My question now is: Will Windows7/64Bit access all of that 8GB RAM? Last edited by DoolittleRaider; 03-26-2011 at 06:39 PM. |
