Default Quick mission builder question.

Can I set the mission so I need to take off, I can only seem to set altitude down to 100?

Thanks

Just do: Mission - Scramble. That option came with patch 4.09 I think.

I have the steam version and when I boot up the game it states I have version 4.08 - I'm not sure if I will risk installing 4.09 as it'll no doubt botch up the game.

So quick mission builder doesn't allow for taking off, bummer and way odd..

As far as I know quite a few people have patched up to 4.09 without trouble. As for why takeoff was not included in Quick mission builder, perhaps they thought that taking off wasn't so quick?

OK fair enough, can someone at least suggest a mission where I can practice taking off - surely to heck there are some and I don't need patch 4.09?

Just select any single mission. Or campaign come to that.
You take off in every mission. If you're not happy with your take-off, press escape, quit mission and refly. I'd recommend you select to fly for USSR in single mission and fly the Mig3 mission against the recon Fw189.
You don't need QMB to allow take-offs in order to practice them.
Alternatively, learn full mission builder, but this will take some getting used to.
There's no need to patch to 4.09, although this is really easy, and is essential if you want to play online. Download the patch and install. It shouldn't cause any problems whatsoever.
Hope this helps, and have fun!

Patching to 4.09 involves running the patch.exe file which simply dumps new files to the location that you tell it to. It's one of the most simple and hassle free patches ever. Steam or no Steam... it'll be fine. Steam screws other things up but not the patching process. BTW: IL-2 patches are almost always new content and new maps, features, and aircraft were a part of 4.09.

As for taking off... why not use the single missions area and select from the dozens available there. Most have you start on an airfield ready for a mission. Or download one of the hundreds of campaigns (many which start at an airfield including 99% of mine).

Good luck!

Default Practicing take-off and landing in all versions of IL-2

Since the beginning of IL-2, I have: -

1. Select Single Mission builder
2. Select aircraft type from list
3. Select a Map area to fly in
4. Turn off AA
5. Begin flying in an 'airstart' situation
6. Practice flying, dives, barrel rolls, strafing runs etc.
7. Open map in cockpit and select an airfield to land on
8. Land 'successfully' on the airfield?
9. Keep engine running, taxi to end of runway, turnaround and take-off
10. Then land again and take-off again
