Default Just wondering if there is any news if SOW will have a conf.ini file?

Just wondering if I have missed any news about whether there is going to be a conf.ini file in SOW.

This has been brilliant through the years as it has enabled IL2 users to increase screen resolution and detail as PC's have become more powerful and able to handle the Graphics capabilities.

Has there been any news or info?

Cheers, MP

Normally you should be able to do all this in the options in the game.

Hopefully, but the conf.ini has offered much more flexibility than the in-game options in Il-2. Hopefully, as you suggest, this will be better-in game for SoW

There are good reasons to keep some settings accessible only through config files. Mainly:

- advanced detail or view distance settings which are too much for current hardware
- experimental/barely tested features like shaders which may cause compatibility problems

Many people with high-end hardware will complain when the game doesn't run perfectly with highest settings. And having too many options can confuse inexperienced users. So it's better to limit in-game settings to "sensible" values, but provide additional options to people who know what they're doing.

then you could devide the ingame menu into normal and advanced settings like in many games.

I think it really helped having access to it though as it gave community members the chance to edit settings which were causing issues with later Driver releases. The example that comes to mind was the Catalyst drivers which caused Blue flashes when guns fired and also texture breakup with Vertex Arrays and Shaders enabled.
Having a conf.ini file allowed these options to be tweaked and disabled, which when IL2 was originally released would not have been a consideration, but by having the options available to the gamers, future development of drivers and the Sim, would have a chance of making it possible for all to play with a quality their PC's could cope with?

I'm also thinking of Water=0 and Water=4 as another example. Maybe a PC could run all the settings max'd out, but Water could be an issue. Surely you wouldn't expect every single Graphic possibility to be in the menu as this would make it cumbersome?

Just having an optional conf.ini to 'play' with would surely be beneficial in the future?

Cheers, MP

Other goood advantage of a conf.ini, is that i can back up it, just in case, and even send it to a friend or sqaudmate o managed to screw is, or wants to try my in-game configuration.
