i am not a big time gamer. a few games have caught my interest over the years....actually pirates of the carribean, the first one. played it hours on end. as you could play it which ever way you liked...follow the story line or capture ships..amass wealth...trade between islands...lay siege to ports and capture island once you have a large enough fleet and army. i have just as big a soft spot for frigates and sloops as i do winged ac. i have tried a couple air combat games but always lost interest before getting halfway through because they just didnt have anything that thrilled me ( personally). saw the cover of BoP on the shelf in a store and decided "why the hell not"...it truely was my last straw. i did no research...didnt see any adds...a pure impulse buy and shot in the dark. i love this game. i dont get on every night but try to get on a couple times a week...and try to get on with the boys from the uk whenever i can. i wish the game had come out a few years earlier...or...my father had lived a few years longer. i would have bought an xbox and copy of BoP for him. my wife enen made the comment while watching me play "i think your dad would have got a kick out of this game." he was not a feable old man even up til the end and had actually messed with a few boring PC flight sims. other than the fact he would have been truely P!$$ed at how the 51s fly here...you probably would have seen him on more than me...and probably way harder to beat than me...lol. i got a long time before i hang up this game and as long as i can fine one good friend to take to the skies with i will DF ( and get my @$$ kicked )...and if i have to take the slies alone....i WILL find dks freaking sheep!

Wow I have a Screen shot of this match that I was going to post to the fourm but for a very differnt reason It was a Sim Team Battle with 13 or more players on a Monday nite which I thought was awsome as proof that IL2 BOP is alive and well.
To make long story short our host switched to Strike match with Bombers on side fighters on other and we had some great matches I thought . yes the Bombers won .In one match I think we faced at least 3 b17's plus a couple of blenhiems etc but we got the whole 20 min hop in and I remeber checking score at the end and everyone had at least 3 kills . To me that is a great match .

Strikes with bombers vs fighters in Sim or realistic is a great way to over come some of the issues mentioned above.

+2 for the snarky englishmen. IL-10 and it's zombie rear gunner break the game play in DF and TB. I was in a TB two nights ago where all but one on the opposing side where flying IL's. I was by far the most frustrating match I have ever played. What fun is it to fly in a straight line and snipe people with your mouse? IL-10 would be more suitable as weapon unlock in a game like resident evil where you can acquire weapons that insurmountably stack the odds in your favor.

Sure, those IL-10s and bombers outside of Strike/CTA can be annoying. But if that's what you want to use, go ahead, i'll adapt to your tactic.

Best tactic to use against an IL2M/IL10 whore?

Ignore it. If everyone ignores them they'll get bored and fly a fighter next time.

Sometimes for a challenge I will take heavy hitter (FW190F with its extra armour is a good choice) and play hide in the gunners blindspot. If you get noticed by the auto gunner though you know the player will take over control and bullet spam you to death so youv'e got to be real carefull to be able to get close enough to get a quick kill on that beast.

I agree best remedy is to ignore them but they have a nasty habit of switching to front seat and come gunning you down. That's why they are so cheesy. Big bombers I don't mind but those ILs can sneak up and shoot you down.

They also take stupid levels of punishment, more than a B17. Trying to get a belly shot in their blind spot in realistic or sim is a chore. I don't have as much time on the game as I used to so don't want to spend what little I do dancing with cheesemeisters more concerned with their standing on a broken leader board than in engaging in a true dogfight

Agree.

I tend to ignore players that pick a bomber in a dogfight game. I simply point my nose to the closest fighter and engage with him. Or i hunt the best skilled enemy pilot in the sky.

Most of the time, players that pick bombers are newbie or generally not very skilled pilots that can't even get on my six fling an IL, so their only chance to score a kill is to rear gun me. If i have to, i can deal easily with any kind of bomber player just by flying a 3 cannon fighter... ( BF109k4 for example ) and boom zooming on them at 600 Km/h or more, aiming at the engine. That would be very effective even against auto gunners.

I must say I get tired of Birds of Prey once in awhile, all the more reason a patch is needed. I saw today a B17G vanish as I shot it down, not even a flame left behind.
