they work fine for me (unofficial patch1.06 and BSM1.01, but also in the vanilla game)
to take a screenshot all you have to do is hit the print key on your keyboard, then open up an image editor of your choice, even MS paint does the job, and hit ctrl + v while that program is selected. have you tried the usual stuff? updating the graphics card drivers, installing the latest directX?
