Hawk, that was a freakin sweet piece of work right there! Excellent use of the replay feature and clever editing. Not easy to do since I know you had to fly the mission twice to add the Flanker cockpit and exterior shots. More please

I'm so used to seeing virtual aviation videos of any worth done with pc flight sims using computers I can't afford (which is fine, I still enjoy them), but here is one featuring OverG using a good ole Xbox, bravo sir!

Thankyou very much. Such is the addiction of having a fantastic console sim with a great & simple replay function. Looking back through this thread & seeing the awesome Over G vids that have surfaced from the forum members, it's a sad reminder to think how many vid threads BoP would get if they had, say, even a flyby view. Just think of the work thatyounggamerguy would be kicking out with this good looking title. Ah well.

Yes the skirmish had to be replayed & it was fun & games trying to get the dogfight & stuff to occurr in more or less the same part of the map.

Thanks for your appreciation buddy, praise from a worthy source.

The sheer beauty of this game is the realism & so there's never a sure-fire way to evade. Different things work for different ppl, inc. barrel rolls etc. I've had a modicum of success with outrunning a missile in the right aircraft.
Another trick is to wait until the missile is almost on your 6 (when the missile dot on your hud is almost at the centre graphic of your plane), then rapidly slowing up the throttle, quickly deploy airbrake, dispence chaff/flare & break hard left or right. You can imagine that all this has to be done very quickly.
Whatever you try isn't always gonna work, that's what helps make this title so awesome.

Hopefully there are forum members here that'll read this & are much better than me & will give their own ideas, somethingt that I too can capitalise on.

Good luck!

my preferred tactic for missile evasion is to get it coming at you from around 4 o clock, gate and pull up at around 5-10 degrees, when the missile is ~1m out. cut power and do a 180 turning into the missile and dropping to a dive. Once you get the technique and timing down, as long as you have time to set up it always works, sometimes :S

Ditto. It gets "almost" easy when you can get the missile coming perpendicular to you. Wait until it's uncomfortably close then pop flares and yank the stick into the direction of the missile or vertical, just not away from it. You can roll out of them sometimes, but the roll is so tight that you still often get damaged even if not taken out. Then the next missile gets you since you're at 50% power. LOL
It's hard to get video of a dodge. I've got some in some of my videos, but it's usually just at the edge of the screen so you can't see it. Dodging in an A-10 will get your heart going though, that doesn't exactly bob and weave well.

When my friends and I were playing this a lot, you might run through all of your missiles and never hit anyone. It boiled down to staying OFF the radar guided missiles (so you don't light up everyone's radar as a target), using your eyes and positioning behind them to get a shot off with a sidewinder. Otherwise the missiles would get dodged too easily. The longer range the missile is, and the further away it's shot, the more likely it is to be dodged with ease.

Note: when firing a phoenix, fire ONLY one until it hits or misses. Keep the plane in your sights since you're guiding the missile in and you can only guide one at a time. Fire a second missile or switch off to another weapon and the lock is broken and the missile is gone. Others you can ripple fire. Some Russian planes have long range heatseekers, but they aren't very agile.

The SU-33 is a beast at bombing with those 1500kg bombs (3300 lbs). My go-to is the Strike Eagle, but it takes 2nd next to that thing in bomb capacity.

Hit the brakes and he'll fly right by?

A head one barrel roll has been known to be a viable tactic for F-16/F-2s. I've never seen anything else pull it off properly.

Its good to know WHAT missile is chasing you. Infared or heat seeker. A different sounding alarm/warning will go off for each so you will know what is coming at you. If its a heat seeker.... its advisable to turn your after burners off, with them one your like a huge "IM HERE COME GET ME" target. With infared.... flares will deal with them. It all depends on the aircraft your flying to.....

the older planes will struggle, no matter how good you are at flying them. Its just the way it is to be honest. Where as the newer ones like the F22 just laugh in the face of any missile coming its way.

It takes time to figure out what works best for you. Rememer if your flying in a straight line you wont out run the missile. (unless you dropped 50,000ft). Its trial and error you'll soon get it.

For me personally.....

i always flew either the F14 and dealt with ground/air or the SU33 and dealt with just ground (one pass in the SU33 can wipe out an enemy tower)... i ALWAYS had height on my side, so any time a missile was on me i would firsty determine what kind them i would out run it by going into a deep dive and using chaff/flares. Dont use your chaff/flares to early either, its just a waste (even though you have an infinite amount) wait until the missile is right on your arse then give it what for

Theirs alot of veterans on here who can help no doubt, so if you get stuck then keep posting for help.
