I-153 Chaika & Po-2 (which was actually a 1920s plane!) The Chaika is the fighter, looking like a I-16 and I-15. While the Po-2 is a trainer, bomber, and reconnaissance plane.

And there both bloody hard to shoot down with a good pilot at the stick. Arcade mode they are WAY to good at the whole turning battle, using them feels like cheating to me. Different story in Realistic mode but they are still super effective when used by a good pilot.

The I-153 is meant to be a turn & burn fighter, the Po-2 not so much. But if you want to gun down a Po-2, just come up from below, or from the top, coming down on its nose so the gunner can't get a shot

IS that because they have so much lift?

biplanes usually have huge amounts of lift- two wings you see. this gives them greater manouverability than most monoplanes. the greater speed of monoplanes by WW2 meant biplanes were obsolete.
