Game Crashes To Desktop

I have tried several times and when I approach Mirabella after completing the 2 Quests and ask to marry her, the system drops to my windows desktop. Also in order to install the program had to change to Windows 98 compatibility mode!? Am running XP sp3, AMD quad-core 3.2 mhz, 4 mb ram, geforce 9800 gtx 512mb and latest drivers for all components. The crash has happened on a couple of other occasions but can not recall where at this time. Any ideas, suggestions? Am running the Atari version 1.6b7 build 32746.
