d2d patch fail

I have twice downloaded the patch for the d2d version and both times afterward the game only gives me an error message (something argument or something to that nature ).
anyhow the mp patch and the whole game single player and all are rejected and will not play .
this has forced me to uninstall and re install the whole game.(twice)
does anyone kknow what this is ? how can i play (multiplayer especialy) if i can not patch this game?????
