new game including patch update 1.7

Problem after completing the three quests and receiving the letter to King am not able to leave the training centre ... the staircase remains blocked and I CAN FIND NO WAY OUT OF THE CENTRE TO CONTINUE ON TO THE CASTLE.
Can you help ... is this a new bug or am I missing something
