microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2 is dead

I was hoping to find someone that might have a clue as to how to troubleshoot this device. I was going to change out the usb cable. But I see 5 wires in the original cable and 4 in the one I was going to change it out with. The joystick is not recognized at all by the computer, and the light does not come on either. I have the bottom off, it seems the power supply works but I can't prove it.
Right now its just dead.

Any advice would be appreciated.
