So the current thinking is that CloD was the Windows Millennium edition of the IL2 franchise and BoM will be the Windows XP version?! (To make a simple analogy).
CloD was close to being fixed when patching was ended, with a few (many depending who you are) irritations to be polished out, but if there just 5 things that you would like to see concentrated on making sure they were perfect at release date, what would they be? This is not a thread where we should go off and knock CloD. Clod is what it is now and (possibly) forever, depending on how they patch it in future releases of BoM. Whether that be updating the CloD install, or including CloD with the BoM isntall...time will tell. For now though, what 5 things would you personally like to see being worked on so that when BoM is released, it would be everything YOU hoped for? Mine are in order of importance to me only: 1) AI - I really am not looking at playing online until I get the hang of even starting an aircraft. I don't want to sit on the ground for 2-hours being strafed (even if I change airfield) as i have no idea how to start and run my aircraft with CEM. So offline play is key to my enjoyment. However the AI is pointless, even after the last patch, not giving any indication of playing against a 'human' opponent. Please see the AI of BoB: WoVII for an example of just what can be achieved. Blimey, why don't 1C just spend some money and buy the AI routines from them? (okay, no money...not an option, but it really is the benchmark!) 2) FM and DM - There are still many issues that need to be resolved with the altitude and performance of the aircraft. Hopefully they will consider fixing the current aircraft ready for the release of new aircraft in BoM? I imagine that if there are issues with the Russian Aircraft, they will get priority as the Developer's probably have easier access to details on the aircraft (in their native language) plus a large 'home' community to help them. I wonder if the current aircraft (depending on how they get added to BoM) will be overhauled or just included as they are currently thought by the Dev's to be 'fixed' and only the new 'BoM' will get worked on for future patches? 3) Radio Commands (allied to AI) - Currently useless and need fixing to make offline play anything worth doing. 4) FMB and QMB Maker - A Simple FMB maker (like the one in IL2: 1946) and then a Complex FMB maker for those who know C++ programming and want to go really in-depth. Currently there is no QMB, so those who don't know or understand programming language are pretty much waiting for anyone who does to create 'something'. The FMB in 1946 at-least let the 'Average Joe' have a chance of making something, now...Blimey! 5) A Complete overhaul of the Graphics routines so that drawn objects in the distance appear more smoothly as they approach, rather than the old technique of 'popping' into view. Other sims can do this seamlessly while showing distant 'priority' objects, so CloD programmers should easily be able to do this? The Graphics also apply to clouds, which should be possible to create at a better/thicker density, while not making a large hit on the GPU/CPU. If this means some smaller maps to allow total cloud cover, it should be an option? So that's my 5 points. It's not a whine thread, it's a what do you hope for that will be included/fixed when the BoM is released? Cheers, MP
