Armor values, numbers

So, I think I've figured this out, but I want to be totally clear:

When you direct control, the first number on the reticule is the distance to the target, and the number in the little box is how much armor your weapon can penetrate at that range.

The color of the box... indicates the probability of penetration? With red being very unlikely (Impossible?) and green being a high probability of damage?

And when I mouse over a tank, the armor appears as two numbers because it gives the frontal and rear armor values. How do I find the side armor value?
