Flying the F4F-3/4's

1. During combat or free flight the engine sound disappears and returns some point later, is this a bug or a result of a maneouvre that affects the pilots hearing?

2. I can fly all day long straight and level at a 100% power with the rad closed but as soon as I engage in combat (even when maintaining the engine at part throttle and keeping my airspeed and rpm at the correct setting) the engine always rapidly overheats. I am continually having to open the radiators. Is there a correct procedure to avoid the constant overheating problem?

3. What is the correct combat technique for using combat flaps as they are only useable below 155mph (which is just too slow for my liking and I prefer not to use them)?
