Very interesting interview, he's definitely thinking outside the box on VR headsets.

Fascinating stuff. At the very end he mentions the future concept of tapping into iPhone5 (or -6, or -7, I suppose) technology for wireless convenience, plus the certain improvements of GPU technology and miniaturization, etc.
He's a smart man.

For $500 for the kit he mentions I'd be willing to give it a go. It's not that far out of reach when you consider the cost of tripple screen gaming or buying one large screen or even a projector. None of those could compete for immersion against a VR headset.
Edit: Looks like things have already kicked off .... http://m.engadget.com/2012/08/01/ocu...-john-carmack/ Edit2: This thing looks like its about to really take off, watch the video ... http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...ently_launched Last edited by Codex; 10-17-2012 at 11:53 AM. |

Interesting, I even felt a twinge of geek as he explained it all. Pleased to know he thinks this is a technology that's going to mature in the next few years rather than be something that's hovering on or over the horizon.
