Hi guys, Well I finally gave in and purchased cliffs of dover yesterday, the videos on you tube were far too nice so i decided it was worth ignoring all of the vocal critics. Unfortunately iv ran straight into some problems. I purchased the game through steam, my first steam buy also so im new to all of this. All seemed to be okay installing and i did a quick flight after the install.... this wasn't great as my stick had no input what so ever and the spitfire was so out of trim it was just doing loops, the trim buttons didn't seem to be responding either as didn't manually moving the trim wheel but atleast it worked... for a while...
Anyway, this isn't my biggest problem, i did some reading and realised the default controls are awfull, i went back in, switched my joystick from second stick to first (who has two joysticks anyway?!) and now the missions refuse to load at all. They get to about 20% and then display the following error message... 'object reference not set to an instance of an object' I have no idea what this means but it happens one hundred percent of the time now whatever mission i try to load, iv tried running as an administrator with no luck. It is also worth noting that the control settings i altered have returned to the default anyway so i don't think its anything there causing the issue? my rig isn't top end anymore but is an quad core at 3.0 so should run it okay with lower settings, i have a new windows 7 pc arriving on monday which is a beast but even so i was hoping to iron out some bugs and learn a few controls etc before that arrives. I would really appreciate any help sorting this as i want to love cod i really do.. If it helps i am currently using vista 64 with an X52 pro and have a saitek cyborg keyboard, iv heard these can cause problems also?? appologies if this is a regular post, i did do a search but didn't find any posts relating to it. Many thanks in advance. |

Not sure what would cause that problem. In Steam you can validate your install...this will set all files back to original install. Steam also has a default to sync your local files.....you probably want it to do this for this one time. But if you get it running again and change your controls config, you will want to disable the local file sync because it will erase your custom controls every once in a while. Sorry I am at work without Steam, so cannot direct you to where all this is located.
I hope it helps a bit. Best advise, try to be patient....we all went through this frustration with CloD AND Steam. (I was new to it for this game.)

Hi, thanks for the quick reply, i actually tried to validate it already as i read that somewhere, it didn't do anything. Also, I turned the cloud sync thing off but that had no effect either, il turn it back on though as im not really sure what it is tbh...

S!
I would say it is Vista that is causing the problem, but let's see on Monday if you have new results.
