Default Total immersion (the future of flightsimming!)

Hi guys
i've learned about this amazing project today:
It's a fully 3D head mounted display, where you don't see the screen anymore, just feel as you actualy ARE IN the game!

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...-into-the-game

It'll make VR glasses finally affordable to average gamers. They want to make it work just by plugging it in via DVI/HDMI and USB. The game has to support it of course, but CloD for example already supports 6DOF. Imagine they add an 3D feature and the propper resoultion to it - finaly we actually "are in the cockpit"!

Specs:

Head tracking: 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) ultra low latency
Field of view: 110 degrees diagonal / 90 degrees horizontal
Resolution: 1280x800 (640x800 per eye)
Inputs: DVI/HDMI and USB
Platforms: PC and mobile
Weight: ~0.22 kilograms

Also they work with many of the big shots of the industrie (i.e. John Carmack creator of Doom, Jeff Bleszinski from Epic..)
And they've already reached their goal moneywise through kickstarter (even more than doubble the money they wanted). It looks like this one is going to be a success in every way!

What do you guys think? For me, this IS THE FUTURE OF GAMING, especially the future of Flightsimming. No mor 6 screens. I always wanted such glasses and now there are finally about to come

Check out their video

The res of the developer´s kit is 1280x800, but in the faq´s they speak about improve the resolution for the consumer version "to deliver immersive 3D experience"..

Technical specs of the Dev Kit (subject to change)
Head tracking: 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) ultra low latency
Field of view: 110 degrees diagonal / 90 degrees horizontal
Resolution: 1280x800 (640x800 per eye)
Inputs: DVI/HDMI and USB
Platforms: PC and mobile
Weight: ~0.22 kilograms

Thats 640x800 per eye, in 3D that is effective resolution

Still very far short of the mark in terms of resolution. 640x480 is just not enough for a modern simulator. Any thing like this would need to be as versitile as possible and you couldn't even play a DVD quality movie.

Back in early 2000 the Sony Glasstron was capiable of 800x600 and that was still too low res. Hopefully the price would be cheeper though.

Where are those digital contacts????

Maybe the ClOD developers would obtain one of the Oculus "dev kits" to start incorporating virtual reality output into the game ? ..... Naa, I'm just dreamin'

Resoulution is an issue... but as they've mentioned they work on it and I'm sure they're going to improove on that. Resolution isn't that much of an issue these days where screens got smaller and higher resoluted (like the retina display froma apple for example). It's just a matter of time and it's still a dev kit right now.
But people who had've the chance to play Doom wearing the device were unanimous stunned. Even with low res.
I'd rather "be" in a pixelized game than "look at" a high resoultion monitor (I'm that excited about this ).
Time will tell, but I'm very optimistic!

The one problem I see with this type of head gear is you would be unable to see your key bored, joystick and other peripherals. But it would give you a great scene of reality.
