Default Is the new set of Dll good for a 9800 GTX ?

Hello,

I'm thinking about getting the new dlls installed on my IL2, but I want before an advice of someone who knows if that will improve my IL2 program.

Actually, I have problems with the water in perfect mode (glittering of certain areas) and also glittering of certain pieces of my aircraft. So it's idiot but I prefer running at lower settings for the moment.

So, any advice?

What do you mean by "glittering"? There is some flickering with all nVidiacards 7xxx and higher. You gotta live with that. For a shimmering effect on the water be sure to set the image-quality to "Quality" in your driver-settings. Anything else degrades resolution of reflections drastically, though this was largely reduced with the latest dlls.

I have a 9800 128mb with the R360 (same chipset as the XT). I get black water. You all probably know that by now...
P.S. (back up your original Dlls and run a test if you want to know - should work)

I think Oktoberfest means an nVidia 9800 GTX Avimimus. ATI never produced a GTX version of the 9800 card AFAIK.

I know - it's confusing when they start giving their products almost the same name

The nV 9800 series is very recent Oktoberfest. I doubt many players have it in use. IIRC it was released even after the latest beta dll's - so testing is up to you. I would start with decent 8800 settings, once you have a picture (any) switch to Custom and start hammering away at the settings in il2setup, conf.ini and nV control panel until you have the best result. Trying some different drivers may be helpfull too.Don't ignore the older drivers or NGOHQ/Omega optimized ones either.

Yes, I mean the nVidia 9800 GTX. MaX, I will make my tests then. I will have to check all those details. At the moment I have a curious effect when turning my head with track IR. It's as if half of the screen would turn a bit before the other half. So my configuration is definitely not good for the moment.

I'll see what I can do.

Image shearing comes from disabled Vertical Synchronization. You can set that in the driver setting to "force on".

Just another idea:
Did you buy and install your new computer from scratch or did you just exchange the graphics card? If you just exchanged the card and didn't reinstall the system, you should uninstall the previous drivers, even if they were nVidia, too, and run DriverCleanerPro to remove all remaining settings in the Registry, reboot and install new graphics drivers.

Hello Feuerfalke,

not sure to understand your reply about the vertical synchronization. Where can I touch to this settings? In my nVidia settings or in the game?

About my computer, it's brand new and build from scratch. So no old drivers installed.

Yes, you can turn that setting on in the nVidia-Control-Panel.

(Rightclick on the tray-symbol in the lower right corner -> Start NVIDIA Control Panel (3rd from bottom).

Now in the window to the left: Manage 3D Settings
In the window to the right: Global settings.

Now to improve image quality:
Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
Antialiasing Gamma correction: On
Antialiasing Mode: Override application settings
Antialiasing Setting: 8xQ or 16xQ, depeding on how smooth you want your picture and what resolution you play at.
Antialiasing Transparency: Supersampling
further down:
Texture Filtering Quality: Quality
Texture Filgering Trilinear: On
Threaded Optimization: off (Some people report increased stutters in IL2 with set to Auto or on)
Vertical Sync: On

You can test if your game runs faster with "tripple buffering" enabled and "maximum prerendered frames" = 3. While Vertical Sync on is great for IL2 with TrackIR some other games tend to run rather choppy with it, so my settings posted are the best blend for different games running at 1280x1024 resolution.

Well here are my details :

19" flat screen. I run the game at the max definition allowed IN the game (1280 x 960 I think it is. I'm in the office so can't check).

I will test your advices tonight and tell you if that improved my game.

I also need to get the latest dlls. Can someone give me a direct link from here. I've seen a post about them in the forum but not sure anymore which version work the best.

Thanx.
